Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 green Granny Smith Apples (cut into 1/2 inch slices)
- 12 popsicle sticks
- coarse sea salt to garnish
Chocolate Coating
- 3 cups chocolate chips or melts (milk or dark)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 cup walnuts (chopped, or nuts of choice)
Caramel Drizzle
- 1 cup caramel candies (unwrapped)
- 1 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Slice each apple into thick wedges, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide. Insert wooden sticks into one end of each apple slice, ensuring the sticks hold firmly for easy handling.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips or melts and coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, melt the chocolate using a double boiler by placing the bowl over hot (not boiling) water on low heat, stirring until smooth, then adding coconut oil for a glossy finish.
- Dip in Chocolate: Holding the wooden stick, dip each apple slice into the melted chocolate to coat evenly. Allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Immediately sprinkle chopped walnuts onto the chocolate before it sets so they adhere well. Place the coated apples on a sheet pan and refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to firm up the chocolate.
- Melt the Caramel: Unwrap caramel candies and place them in a microwave-safe bowl with the heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until the caramel is smooth and fully melted. Be careful not to overheat. The double boiler method can also be used for melting caramel gently.
- Toppings: Remove the chocolate-coated apple slices from the refrigerator. Drizzle the melted caramel over each slice generously. Finish by sprinkling a pinch of coarse sea salt over the caramel for a perfect sweet-salty balance. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Chocolate Turtle Apple Slices!

- Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor and texture contrast against the sweet toppings.
- Coarse sea salt enhances the sweetness of caramel and chocolate, adding depth to each bite.
- For variations, substitute walnuts with pecans, almonds, or your favorite nuts.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and crispness of the apples.
